From Believing to Expecting: How to Prepare for God’s Promises



Are you preparing for the good things God has in store for your life?

We all have dreams, desires, and promises we are standing on—breakthroughs we believe will come to pass. But often, there is a waiting season before they manifest.

Maybe you are waiting for a financial breakthrough, a health miracle, a career shift, or restoration in your relationships. Whatever it is, how you wait matters.


James 5:7 reminds us:“Be patient as you wait… see how the farmer waits expectantly.”

A farmer does not sit back passively—he prepares. He waters the seed, pulls the weeds, and keeps the soil ready. That is the mindset we need while waiting on God’s promises.

The Power of Waiting with Expectancy

Faith is not just believing—it is expecting.

Believing says, “I hope it happens.”Expecting says, “I know it is on the way.”

When you wait with expectancy, you:

  • Stay positive – Wake up each day expecting today could be the day your breakthrough comes.

  • Take action – Faith without works is dead (James 2:26). Do not just pray—prepare.

  • Speak life – Stop saying “if it happens.” Start declaring “when it happens.”

Some have prayed and believed, but now it is time to move into expecting.

Expectancy is active, not passive. It is the difference between hoping for rain and preparing your field for the downpour.

Do Your Part—God Will Do His

Too often, we sit back and say, “God, just give it to me.” But God is saying, “You do your part, and I will do Mine.”

  • Make preparations

  • Sow seeds

  • Do your research

  • Stay in faith

You might ask, “What if I step out and it does not happen?”But what if you step out—and it does?

Even if things do not unfold exactly as you hoped, you are still better off living with faith than walking in doubt.

Faith is Tested in the Unknown

2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “We walk by faith, not by sight.”

Faith shines when you cannot see how everything will come together. If all the details were laid out for you, faith would not be required.

The real test of faith is when there is no evidence in the natural—yet you still:

  • Talk like it is going to happen

  • Act like it is going to happen

  • Prepare like it is going to happen

That is the kind of faith that gets God’s attention.

My Journey from Believing to Expecting

I experienced this firsthand with a major project God placed on my heart.

Normally, I prefer to move in silence, working behind the scenes until everything is complete. But this time, God led me to share the vision publicly—before it was finished.

This raised the stakes.It added pressure—and faith.

I announced the project’s success before I had any guarantees. Then came the delays, challenges, and legal battles.

But I held onto God’s promise.

When I stopped just believing and started expecting, I shifted from fear to faith. Like a couple preparing a nursery before the baby arrives, I started:

  • Making plans

  • Following through on inspired actions

  • Sacrificing

  • Declaring God’s faithfulness

And there were moments of doubt.

I would wake up in a cold sweat, battling thoughts like:

  • What if you do not get the funding?

  • What if the support does not come?

  • You are going to look like a fool.

But I fought back with faith:

  • “God, I trust You.”

  • “I am not moved by what I do not see.”

  • “You are bigger than every obstacle.”

  • “At the right time, You will turn things in my favor.”

Three years later, that is exactly what happened.

Are You Believing or Expecting?

Let me ask you today: Are you just believing, or are you expecting?

Believing says:“I would love to get out of debt… I would like to own a home someday… but my business is slow, and the economy is tough.”

Expecting says:

  • “God, I know You can do what men cannot.”

  • “You are Jehovah Jireh, my provider.”

  • “My job is not my source. The economy is not my source. God is my source.”

Expectancy expands your vision, breaks the chains of limited thinking, and moves you into preparation mode.

Start Making Preparations

When you wait with expectancy, you act as if your breakthrough is already on the way.

  • Like a farmer watering his seeds, keep your faith strong.

  • Pull out the weeds of doubt.

  • Speak God’s Word over your life.

  • Start making preparations—even in small ways.

Waiting with expectancy is not just faith—it is a lifestyle.

Stop waiting passively.Start preparing actively.

Because when you go from believing to expecting, you invite the supernatural into your life.

Habakkuk 2:3 says:"Though the vision tarries, wait earnestly for it, for it will not be one second late."

At the right time, in due season, God will fulfill His promises—and they will not be one second late.

Your Breakthrough is Closer Than You Think

Every morning:

  • Water your seeds

  • Thank God in advance for the answer

  • Put actions behind your faith

  • Stay positive, hopeful, and expectant

Because your breakthrough is closer than you think.
