Renewing Your Mind: Unlocking the Power of Faith and Hope



What You Think About, You Bring About

The thoughts we consistently dwell on shape our reality. But what happens when those thoughts are filled with fear, anxiety, and doubt? Without renewing our minds, processing emotions, and tending to our hearts, we find ourselves in a cycle of limitation and self-sabotage.


The same thinking that creates a problem cannot be the thinking that solves it. A miracle is often nothing more than a shift in perception.


The Power of Faith Over Fear

Stinkin’ thinkin’ exposes a faith problem—but faith in the wrong direction.

Maybe you didn’t grow up in an environment of faith, or perhaps religion left a bad impression on you. However, without faith, life is filled with self-doubt, chaos, and unnecessary suffering. The good news? Faith changes everything.

Faith is the evidence of things hoped for. Hope comes first—faith is specific, hope is more general.

  • Faith says: “God is going to do this.”

  • Hope says: “I don’t know what God is going to do specifically, but I know good things are coming.”

David understood this when he wrote in Psalm 27: “I would have lost heart unless I believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”


Living While You’re Waiting

Hope allows us to live in faith while waiting for God’s promises. People without hope often feel stuck, waiting for something to happen before they allow themselves to fully live.

But what if you could live while you wait?

  • Hope says: “Even if my plans don’t unfold as expected, I will still thrive.”

  • Hope allows us to delight in the Lord before we see our desires fulfilled.

  • Hope frees us from putting all our expectations into one outcome.

Psalm 37 tells us: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” This means we can be “delighters” while waiting.


Serving the Lord with Gladness

Psalm 100 tells us to “serve the Lord with gladness.” This is easier said than done, especially when facing difficult assignments, responsibilities, or circumstances. We all have reasons why we think we can’t serve with gladness, but what if that very mindset is keeping us from moving forward?

A conversation with someone recently revealed this challenge. They felt disappointed in their workplace due to poor communication and difficult people. My response? Clarify your options.

  • What will you believe about this?

  • What will you do?

  • How will you assert your choices?

Someone who truly values and respects you will speak the truth in love. No matter where we go, there will always be challenges. If you believe you are meant to be where you are, that belief will give you the strength to persevere.


Gladness Is an Indicator of Growth

Gladness is one of the main indicators that we are ready for more. If we consistently let go of joy at our current level, we may not be ready for the next.

Jeremiah 12:5 reminds us, “If you have run with footmen and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses?”

Regular gladness signals that we have passed the tests of our current season and are prepared for what’s next. When we are full of faith, cheerfulness and gladness follow.


Faith and Hope Work Together

Faithfulness is not just about showing up—it’s about how we think when we show up. When we are truly full of faith, joy will be one of its fruits.

Psalm 100 tells us: “Serve the Lord with gladness.” That’s another way of saying, “Serve God by delighting in Him.”

A faith-walker who delights in the Lord says, “God, I can’t wait to see what You are going to do! I know it will be epic.”


Faith Isn’t Denial—It’s Trust in a Higher Truth

Hope is the belief that the future will be better than the present, and that we have the power to partner with God to make it so.

Ezekiel didn’t seem to have strong faith in the valley of dry bones, but he followed God’s command and spoke life—and those bones came alive.

If you find yourself lacking hope, it may mean you are renewing your mind with lies instead of truth. Increasing hope is evidence of mind renewal.


Your Hope Level Determines Your Influence

The one with the most hope has the most impact. Hope and joy are powerful forces that influence others and shape our reality.

The joy of the Lord is our strength, but there’s never a “convenient” season to walk in radical joy. It is always a choice.
