The Six Phases of a Calling


Have you ever asked yourself questions like:

  • Why is this happening to me?

  • I thought I was pursuing my calling, but now I feel lost.


When we don’t understand the phases of a calling, it’s easy to feel resentful, discouraged, or even stuck. We start “future-tripping,” worrying about what’s ahead, and sometimes we miss the bigger picture of what God is doing in our lives.


But here’s the good news: when we understand the 6 phases of a calling, we can recognize where we are, stay encouraged, and cooperate with God’s work—even when things get tough (and they will).


Let me walk you through these 6 phases:


PHASE 1: DREAM

Every journey starts with a dream.God plants a vision, idea, or goal in your heart—a glimpse of the impact He wants you to have in the world. This is the starting point of faith.


PHASE 2: DECISION

Will you answer the call?God gives us the freedom to choose. Nothing happens until you decide to step out in faith and put the dream into action. For every 10 who are called, only one chooses to take the risk and move forward.


PHASE 3: DELAYS

Waiting is inevitable.When you pursue a calling, there will always be delays. Why? Because God works on us before He works on our projects. Delays teach us patience and trust in His timing, strengthening our faith in the process.


PHASE 4: DIFFICULTIES

Challenges will come.Even when you’re aligned with your calling, obstacles arise. These difficulties are part of God’s process to refine your faith and character. Often, we’re stretched to our limits, learning to rely on Him when we’ve exhausted our own strength.


PHASE 5: DEAD ENDS

The impossible often comes before breakthrough.When situations feel hopeless, remember that impossibility is where God does His finest work. He brings life to what seems dead—whether it’s a dream, a relationship, or hope itself.


PHASE 6: DELIVERANCE

God’s timing is perfect.In the end, God delivers in His appointed time, often quicker and more powerfully than we expect. And through it all, He gets the glory for the transformation.


Where Are You in Your Journey?
