Shift Your Perspective: You Are a Gift, Not a Problem

You are not a problem to be solved. You are not something to be figured out. You are someone to be treasured, enjoyed, valued, discovered, and appreciated.

When you stop seeing yourself as a problem, you shift from trying to fix yourself to please and impress others, to truly developing yourself for impact and fulfillment.


Think of yourself as a valuable gift. How do you treat something of great worth? You care for it with intention and attention. Now, apply that same level of care to yourself:

  • Your mind – Processes over 70,000 thoughts each day

  • Your emotions – Help you navigate experiences with depth

  • Your heart – Beats over 100,000 times a day, sustaining your life

  • Your spirit – Your divine connection and resilience in adversity

How can you show more compassion and care for what has been entrusted to you?


The Difference Between Influence and Effectiveness

Many people invest excessive energy into crafting an image—how they appear, how they are perceived, and their level of influence. But what truly transforms lives is not influence alone, but effectiveness.


Effectiveness is rooted in purpose. It asks:

  • What will lead to true fruitfulness?

  • What will create lasting value?

  • What will produce meaningful impact?

What effectiveness is not:

  • How can I get people to notice me?

  • How can I increase my follower count?

  • How can I manipulate engagement?

One mindset is service-oriented. The other is manipulation-driven. When effectiveness is your foundation, sustainable influence naturally follows.


The Power of Living an Effective Life

Many people are influential, but their lives lack effectiveness. They may have visibility but experience deep dysfunction in their:

  • Relationships – Struggling marriages, broken friendships

  • Health – Ignoring mental, emotional, and physical well-being

  • Finances – Living in financial disarray despite outward success


Effectiveness requires internal alignment, integrity, and mastery.

Ask yourself:

  • What does it mean to live an effective life?

  • Who do I want to be successful at being, not just at doing?

  • If I embraced my effectiveness fully, how would I show up differently?


Why Purpose Over Influence?

When influence is your driving force, it’s never enough. You’ll always crave more—more followers, more validation, more attention.

When service and purpose drive you, life becomes richer, deeper, and more fulfilling.


Purpose is not a destination; it’s a filter through which we live.

Instead of striving to "find your purpose," ask yourself:

  • What is my assignment in this season?

  • How can I serve with excellence where I am now?

  • How can I develop my gifts to create meaningful impact?

Purpose is not about what you do, but who you are. Assignments change, but purpose remains constant.


The Role of Adversity in Clarity and Mastery

Sometimes, before stepping into a greater level of calling, we face:

  • Adversity – Unexpected setbacks and struggles

  • Disappointments – Delayed or deferred dreams

  • Heartbreak – Losses that shape us deeply

God often strips away idols and entitlement surrounding a dream so we can steward it well.

When stepping into new levels of purpose, you may initially struggle, fail, or feel like an amateur. This discomfort is part of the process. Growth happens in the tension between where you are and where you’re called to be.


The Mindset Shift: From Trying to Mastery

  • Don't fake it until you make it. Face it until you make it.

  • Don't take yourself too seriously. Have fun with your growth.

  • Don't avoid adversity. It refines you.

Disappointment can either be a dead end or a defining moment. The choice is yours.

You are not powerful enough to ruin God’s plan for your life. Your role is to be effective and let God handle the influence.
